Businessowners Policy

AmTrust North America offers a competitive Businessowners Policy (BOP) that can be easily tailored to specific risks. Our BOP can be issued as a stand-alone product or as a complement to our workers’ compensation insurance or commercial auto products. AmTrust also offers an umbrella with limits ranging from $1 million to $10 million to fit over our BOP and commercial auto products.

Submission Requirements

Our BOP system enables you to get quick rate indications and submit risks for review.  The system does not require applications or loss runs for most risks, however:

  • Underwriters may request complete General Package Acord 125, Property 140, Liability 126 or the BOP 160 applications for any risk
  • Underwriters may request complete three or five years of loss runs for any risk

Preferred & Excluded Classes

  • Liability limits up to $2 million per occurrence/$4 million aggregate on selected classes, and up to $10 million of Umbrella
  • Grocery Stores - less than 4,000 square feet, and up to $3 million in values and $5 million in gross sales
  • Offices - targeted up to six stories for building owners and 25 stories for tenants
  • Restaurants - frame requires full sprinklers, at least three years in current location with current owner and no liquor liability coverage in AL, CT, IA, MN, PA, UT, VT or WV
  • Retail/Mercantile - targeted
  • Service and Processing Stores - targeted
  • Wholesalers - targeted, but no direct importers
  • Lessor's Risk (LRO) - targeted for buildings occupied by eligible classes, excluding all hotels and motels and any restaurants with commercial cooking
  • Nonprofit Organizations, coverage is available for acceptable special events and D&O, such as:
    • Art Galleries
    • Chambers of Commerce
    • Charitable Foundations - Organizations with volunteer boards that invest and administer funds for charitable purposes, either directly or by grants to other nonprofits
    • Social Science Research - Generally, organizations that research objective data and prepare papers discussing the data and/or its conclusions
    • Trade Organizations - Whether an industry trade group, business association, or other group of businesses working together to advance their business interests
